Teaching Philosophy
Overall, my teaching philosophy is to add value to my students. My desire is for every student with whom I come in contact to be the best in his or her profession. I desire my students to be highly proficient in their fields, strive for excellence in all that they do, and exhibit the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior. I also desire my students to enjoy the learning process and become life-long learners.
Professional Profile
I began my professional career as a commercial loan officer for a major commercial banking institution in the Detroit-metropolitan area. I provided credit and non-credit banking services to small businesses and non-profit organizations. I managed a $30 million commercial loan portfolio.
I subsequently became a deputy director for a non-profit organization that specialized in business and economic development, as well as human services. I managed three business skills training programs and supervised 25 employees comprised of cross-functional teams of program managers, business consultants, accountants, job developers, graphic designers and administrative assistants.
I entered the field of higher education in 1998. I teach both undergraduate and graduate finance and accounting courses – both on campus and in online formats.
